dpiX Launches Lightweight Foil to Improve Digital Imaging Tech

If you’ve had a digital x-ray, there’s a good chance Colorado Springs-based dpiX had a role. With half of the global market share, dpiX is a high-resolution imaging solutions leader, serving medical, military, and industrial clients.

In June, dpiX became the first in North America to implement a new production line for x-ray sensors made on flexible foil (flexible substrates). The development expands on almost two decades of best-in-class digital x-ray sensors manufacturing (with digital images replacing traditional film). Instead of traditional glass substrate, sensors can now be manufactured on lightweight foil.

“Using foil instead of glass will make our x-ray sensors lightweight, almost unbreakable, and moldable, opening up numerous opportunities for mammography, portable x-ray detectors, and military and industrial applications,” said Frank Caris, CEO and president of dpiX.

dpiX was established in 1999 in Silicon Valley before moving to Colorado Springs in 2007. The move allowed for the necessary space to serve the rapidly growing digital x-ray market. dpiX sensors are used by almost all majorxX-ray device manufacturers in their digital x-ray devices.

“We are proud that cutting-edge businesses like dpiX call Colorado home,” said Colorado Lieutenant Governor Donna Lynne.

“Our state is a national leader in industries such as defense, aerospace, aviation, and health care, and with Colorado companies like dpiX delivering new innovations for these markets, the company serves as a great example of our economic dynamism.”

dpiX’s announcement builds on an insurgence of advanced manufacturing business and company relocation interest in Colorado Springs. Tammy Fields, chief economic development officer for the Colorado Springs Chamber & EDC, noted that attraction and expansion manufacturing project interests are at their highest peak in last 15 years. Learn more about Colorado Springs’ medical technologies industry here or get in touch with our team for more information.
